Our Commitment to the Community
Cabot currently has benefits agreements in place with a number of community organizations who have received grants and funding as a direct result of activity at Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs. The Mabou golf project creates opportunities for community groups like the Mabou and District Community Development Association, Mabou Athletic Commission, West Mabou Development Association, Strathspey Performing Arts Centre, Mabou Gaelic & Historical Society and many more that will benefit from a growing population, more volunteer support, and additional grants and sponsorships.
Co-Existing with a Provincial Park
A new course would fall within the boundaries of the West Mabou Beach Provincial Park. Cabot's goals align with the goals of Nova Scotia’s provincial park system: to provide opportunities for outdoor recreational pursuits; to preserve elements of the natural environment; and to provide residents and visitors with opportunities to discover, experience, and enjoy our province’s distinctive natural resources.
Any development within these boundaries would require authorization by the Government of Nova Scotia, including all the required regulatory approvals. The new course would be developed to meet international standards for golf courses in the area of environmental stewardship. Cabot's goal is to protect and enhance this space through careful, thoughtful, and responsible planning and stewardship.
There are numerous examples of golf courses, and other recreation facilities, residing within, near, or overlapping both provincial and national parks, one of the most famous being Highlands Links in Ingonish. Some courses, such as Herring Cove Golf Course and Mactaquac Golf Course, both in New Brunswick, are located entirely within provincial parks and are considered part of their parks’ offerings to guests.
There are also many provincial and federal parks that offer recreational activities. Sugarloaf Provincial Park is home to a well-known ski facility, and Cape Smokey in Ingonish borders both a national and provincial park.
